Give Me Patience…

PATIENCE is the endurance needed to overcome the trials...Recently, I asked the Lord to “give” me patience in all that I venture to accomplish.  As I prayed for patience, the words just seemed to flow from my heart. I was convinced that the process of receiving what was asked would be “given”. But I was wrong.  I was mistaken in that; I did not understand the process of developing this particular fruit of the Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22

At work, there were circumstances that quickly reminded me that the Lord wanted to answer my prayer. How? By placing me in situations where it required waiting. I quickly understood that the Lord is not going to give me patience. But, he will allow the fruit of patience to grow within me. How? It will be developed as I wait in traffic,  grocery stores, banks and working with others on their time to name a few. I have learned that it is very much the Lord’s will that I pray for the character and virtue of patience, faithfulness, honesty and the list continues. However, the above mentioned will not happen overnight.

There will be created situations to produce the expected result.  In other words; it is not necessary to get in a prayer line for patience. I can continue to pray for patience, but only until I'm placed in situations that allow growth, it will not happen. How will a prayer for patience be answered? The answer manifests in life's trails, tests, and “going through” so to speak.  I have learned or rather I am learning that as we ask the Lord for any fruit of the spirit it will occur-- In reality, it takes time to grow fruit. As we are faced with diverse situations in seasons of disappointment, pain, sorrow and tears then patience matures. As a result, the diverse situations are use so that the love of God is poured out in our hearts.
Romans 5:3-5 New King James Version (NKJV) And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces patience; patience, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. In summary, the word patience comes from the Latin word for suffering. Sometimes the phrase "long suffering" is used as a synonym for patience. Longsuffering is the ability to wait without getting angry and that is a sign that patience is being developed. Psalms 130:5 Declares this awesome truth; " I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. So remember the next time you pray for patience or any fruit of the spirit--the answer is available in Him. I worship today by preparing to be a broken vessel for his use. In Christ I have everything and patiently I will wait. Be encouraged by the song below entitled While I'm Waiting by John Waller.
